Patron of immigrants
Receiving a special dispensation from the Vatican, Toribio Romo González was ordained at the age of only 21. He was a parish priest in Jalisco, Mexico. In the 1920s, Catholics in Mexico rebelled against the anti-clerical policies of the government in what is known as the Cristero Rebellion. Padre Toribio and 24 others were murdered by a ring squad during the height of this rebellion. It is believed that St. Toribio assists immigrants, alleviating their distress and making their passage a safe one.
